Right after breakfast, our Fall Saturday started early with our Driver’s Meeting at the Fontana Village Resort. We then staged at the resort and headed out for a full day of driving with several stops along the way. We left the resort and drove a fantastic portion of the Moonshiner 28 on our way to our first stop at Fatz Cafe, where they were awaiting our group for lunch. We drove down Wayah Gap and through the Nantahala National Forest on our way back towards Robbinsville. We jumped on the Cherohala Skyway and followed it to the end, then took a left to head toward our cookout in Murphy. When we got to Appalachian Driving Experience, they hosted the group to an awesome party with an incredible cookout. We had to brave some rain on the day and ended back at the resort where we relaxed with friends after more than six hours of mountain driving.

Our Sunday weather looked much better and it worked well since we had two trips on the Tail of the Dragon on the route. We again staged at the Fontana Village Resort but left and drove the unbelievable Hellbender on our way to Deal’s Gap and onto the Tail of the Dragon. At the bottom of the dragon, we merged onto the Foothills Parkway before we stopped for fuel in Townsend. From Townsend we traveled Wear’s Valley and onto the newly finished “Missing Link” of the Foothills Parkways which offers a fantastic drive with epic scenery. The fog we encountered made for some really cool pictures since Justin with Killboy Photos was waiting on the group for some action shots. We took some Tennessee country back roads down the mountain and headed back towards the Tail of the Dragon where the weather was looking great for that run as we headed back down the Hellbender and onto the Fontana Dam for our group photoshoot. After the photoshoot we took a secret shortcut through the mountain and ended the event with a catered meal waiting for the group at the incredible Tapoco Lodge and Tavern.
